Put the World on Paper: Flash Fiction Writing Workshop at the Olean Public Library

On Wednesday 13, 2011 at 7:00 pm the Olean Public Library will offer a free writing workshop entitled: Put the World on Paper–Flash Fiction Writing, a workshop for teens through adults with local writer and educator Elaine Snyder.

Flash Fiction, or micro fiction, is a genre of creative writing noted for its almost poetic brevity.

·                     Try your hand at writing these “short-short” stories, based on the Olean Public Library Summer Reading Program theme: “One World, Many Stories.”

·                     You may bring an heirloom from your cultural heritage or a treasured piece from a culture with which you connect and use the piece to inspire your stories.

·                     Peer editing and sharing of stories will be incorporated into the workshop to create a writing community atmosphere.

Elaine Snyder teaches writing and literature through Empire State College. Mrs. Snyder also offers a variety of writing workshops for children and adults through Jamestown Community College Continuing Education and has served as a writing mentor to area students in grades 3-12 for almost eight years. Writing poetry is her passion but she has also written literary short stories, fairy tales, fantasy, science fiction, supernatural, and creative nonfiction. Mrs. Snyder is currently assembling poetry for a book which will be available through Amazon as an ebook.

The Flash Fiction Writing Workshop is free and open to the public. Space is limited; please call or visit the Reference Desk at (716) 372-0200 to sign-up or for more information visit the library website at www.oleanlibrary.org. The Olean Public Library is located at 134 North Second Street, Olean, New York.
