Local author William P. Robertson will be speaking at the Olean Public Library on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the Art Gallery. He will read from his recently released book Attack in the Alleghenies which he co-authored with David Rimer.
Set during the French & Indian War, Attack in the Alleghenies gives a chilling account of the mayhem spread by the Delaware warriors of Kittanning, Pennsylvania, and of the raid led by Colonel John Armstrong in 1756. Much of the action in this book is set in the Iroquois village of Ishua Town that was located near present-day Olean. Mr. Robertson is a reenactor and will come dressed in period garb. He will also have weapons and artifacts on display. After the talk, signed copies will be available for purchase for $12.00.
Mr. Robertson is a native of Bradford, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Mansfield University with a B.S. in English. Since college, he has worked in factories, taught high school English, run a successful house painting business and is an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Robertson is a French & Indian War and Civil War reenactor and belongs to the Company I Bucktail unit of McKean County, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Robertson’s work has now appeared in over 490 magazines, e-zines, and anthologies in the U.S., Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Romania, Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia. His other writing credits include eleven poetry collections, two audio books of horror verse, three volumes of short stories, and seven historical fiction novels about the famous Civil War sharpshooters–the Bucktails.
Mr. Robertson was a featured speaker at the 2003 Bucktail Educational Conference held at Shippensburg University and at the 2007 AMART Civil War Conference hosted by Temple University, and at the Pennsylvania Association of School Retiree’s Convention in Gettysburg in 2008. In addition, he has appeared on Time Warner Cable’s Channel 6, on the “Crossroads” TV show broadcast by Channel 13 in Buffalo, New York, and on the WPSX Channel 3 “Take Note” show.
