Kick Off Summer Reading With a Jeopardy Champ!

The kick off event for the Summer Reading Programs at the Cuba Circulating Library and the Olean Public Library will be six time Jeopardy! winner and local resident Jason Zollinger speaking about “ Reading for Fun…and Profit.”

“I have always read and continue to read anything I come across, with a particular emphasis on history. My love of reading led, from an early age, to a natural affinity for trivia,” Mr. Zollinger said.

The Cuba Circulating Library will feature Mr. Zollinger on Wednesday, June 23 at 7pm, and Mr. Zollinger will be at the Olean Public Library on Thursday, June 24 at 7pm.  Both programs are free and open to the public.

Mr. Zollinger lives in South Dayton , NY with his wife, Rose, and daughter, Muriel.

A 1988 graduate of Pine Valley Central High School he attended SUNY Stony Brook & New Mexico State University .  After school, Mr. Zollinger worked in oil exploration as a seismographer in Abu Dhabi , United Arab Emirates . During this time he traveled to many different parts of the world and has been to 20 foreign countries.

Currently employed at the Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant in Lakewood , NY for over 15 years, Mr. Zollinger is a team member on the 15L ISX assembly line, installing lube pumps, gear housings, and flywheel housings.

“Recently, I was able to put my lifetime of reading and facility for trivia to use in a lucrative way. After trying for 22 years to be a contestant on the long-running quiz show, Jeopardy!, my dream came true in October 2009 when I was invited to be a contestant on the show,” Mr. Zollinger said.

The Jeopardy! show aired in January 2010 and Mr. Zollinger competed for seven days. “My number of wins qualified me for the Tournament of Champions. In March 2010, my family and I traveled to California for the taping, where I competed with the biggest winners since the previous tournament,” added Mr. Zollinger.

Jeopardy! is an American television quiz show featuring trivia in topics such as history, literature, the arts, pop culture, science and sports. The show has a unique answer-and-question format in which contestants are presented with clues in the form of answers, and must phrase their responses in question form.
